Amex Platinum Card

American Express is currently running a promotion that if you sign up for their Platinum card, you get 25,000 bonus points once you spend $1,000. This is a really good promotion that will net free airline tickets from the points, or even items from the amex shopping mall. I've been using the American Express Platinum card for awhile and really like it.

Replacement Hubcaps

A friend of mine has a very "loved" older ford. He told me that he was in the market to buy some new hubcaps for his car, and that he thought it would do a lot for touching up the outside look of the car. I helped him look around for replacement ford hubcaps and we found a good, slightly used set. They had been touched up, cleaning, and repainted. It has definitely made his car look a lot better. If you're in the market for replacing your hubcaps, or looking to give your car a face lift, I would definitely suggest getting a new set.

World of Warcraft

I have been trying to stay away from playing World of Warcraft for a long time, but I think I am about to succumb to the pressures. I am not that into it yet, i'm not in a guild or doing large scale raids. But I think I am getting into it and I have been using ventrilo for WoW.

I got into using Ventrilo when I was playing counterstrike competitively, but it also seems to be great for World of Warcraft. Just thought I would share.

Nascar offical pizza

This post about the Nascar Official Pizza was taken off Jon and Chad's blogs. Thought it was interesting so I am posting it here too.

So for whatever reason I did an Overture Keyword tool search for “Nascar” and it returned an interesting keyword variation. According to Yahoo!’s data, “Nascar official pizza” got a whopping 398,447 searches in January while just “Nascar” got only 361,230. That’s a lot of hungry Junior (WOOOO!) fans.

Nascar distributed a press release on February 9th about it:

Ken Calwell, Domino’s chief marketing officer, says the company’s involvement with NASCAR has continued to grow because of the way it has helped enhance the Domino’s brand.

“When Domino’s became the ‘Official Pizza of NASCAR,’ it was always our intent to grow and maximize our participation in the sport,” Calwell said. “Since then, Domino’s Pizza has moved from number three to the number one pizza brand among NASCAR fans. I’m not exactly sure why so many people would be searching for Domino’s pizza last month (or at all, really) since that press release came out this month. I wonder if the volume numbers are even higher now. If this post somehow gets on Google for “Nascar official pizza” I’ll let you know how much actual traffic it brings… until then.

Spring Cleaning

Its that time of year again. This year I have decided to try and sell off my baseball and basketball collection. My parents keep telling me to keep it so I can give it to my kid. But really, if I do that, then they will what? Stare at the card like I did, then put it in a box. So, I am going to think in the short term and put them all on Ebay. I have thousands upon thousands of cards, it might take a while. If anyone is interested in buying them, you can check out my auctions.

Feel free to buy a bunch of them. I am going to continue to put up a cards over the next several weeks. I sold about $100 worth last week. This will go toward feeding my Wii addiction. Thanks to Erica, who got me a Wii for my birthday. <3

Also, while perusing the internets, I found this thread. Some guy took pictures of a hit and run and they turned out to be of the guy that hit someone in this thread. OWNED!

Everyone Should Use Ventrilo

Most people probably do not know what Ventrilo is, if you don't check www.ventrilo.com. It is a type of voice software that allows multiple users to talk over the internet. The client is free for download and use. A lot of gamers use it while playing games, but I have been using it a lot for the new business and it makes things real easy. If anyone is looking to get a Ventrilo Server they can be had for pretty cheap.

Moving Tomorrow

I am moving tomorrow to DC. Its going to be tough to leave Boone, its been my home for 4 years. I couldn't have asked for better times or better friends. As much as I am ready to start my life, my job, and make something of myself, I would much rather just stay in college. Oh well, life goes on. Invisibility Cloak

In case you haven't seen any of the news, some scientists in the UK and here in the States are working on developing an invisibility cloak. Well it would really be more like a shield than a cloak if anything. You should check out this article that was on Wired.

While an invisibility cloak would be totally new, optical camouflage is not. The university of Tokyo has already been dabbling in that. Check out these two links for info on that stuff. The first one has several videos of it in action. It is simply amazing.

An update

I got back from my cruise the other day and I had a blast. We (Carrie, Kendrick, Ethan, Trivette, and I) roadtripped from Boone to Tampa. Of course, stopping in Gainesville to stay with Carrie's family along the way. The cruise itself was great. We stopped in the Grand Caymans and in Calica, Mexico. Other than my sun poisoning on the last day, I have no complaints. Especially with a view like this.

In terms of the job search, things are starting to look up. I got several phone calls today and I am starting to line up potential interviews. It looks like I might have a job by the middle to end of next month. Who knows though. What I need is for Erica to get back from Chiner already.

Post Graduation Thoughts

Well, graduation was this past Saturday and it went very well. I was extremely nervous about my speech but in the end I didn't randomly develop tourete's and shout explicatives like I thought I might. Now that I have graduated I really got to try and find a job. I got another rejection from a gaming company, THQ, a 3rd party developer. But I applied for about 10 more positions today, one was an investment banking position at Bank of America. I figured I would try and broaden my applications a little bit. You know, diversify my portfolio a tad.

I recently had to do a report on Google for my Strategic Management class. When compiling the project, much of which had to do with Google advertisements (which are now on this site and I would be much obliged if you clicked on them), and I found out that the internet is a record setting medium. For instance the internet reached 50 million users in 3 years from its inception and it reached $1 billion in advertising in its 3rd year. To put it in perspective, it took radio over 35 years for each of these. Google received roughly $2.2 billion in ad revenue in Q1 of 2006 alone. There is a lot of money to be made and a lot of people that still don't have internet access yet, so its only going to get bigger.

Well, we are now the #1 search result for the term "student ambassadors program". I am pretty excited. I started optimizing the site at the end of December. Its not #1 yet on the 3 major search engines and for all 4 terms, but it is getting there. We are basically top 10 for 4 major search terms on google, msn, and yahoo.

I am started to get frustrated because I feel like every time I find a job posting I really like, I am not qualified enough. I am just looking for someone to take a chance on me. Is that too much to ask? I found the absolute best job today. It was a government affairs position with Electronic Arts, the #1 3rd party video game developer. Anyone who knows me would say this is right up my alley. Well it is, but unfortunately my alley does not contain 10 years worth of experience. I really just want to put on a suit and go on a road trip to Dell, Microsoft, 3rd party game developers, and government offices and not leave till one of them offers me a job. Alas, I will not do that. Instead I will continue applying online and go on my cruise after graduation. Tough life huh?

So it is almost 1:30 in the morning and I am just now starting a paper that is due at 11am. I figure that it is ok though, because I am enjoying this being my last opportunity to procrastinate and pull an all nighter in my college career. I sure have had a lot of them. I really loved the time I started my 34 page thesis at 9pm and worked through the night and finished at 10am the next morning. That one was fun. Oh how I love college. Too bad it all comes to an end May 6th, 2006 @4:30PM in the Holmes Convocation Center. Not that I am counting down the days or anything. Oh by the way, the Student Ambassador site is now #3 on MSN for the student ambassador search term. Go me.

I am working on a project right now for my Strategic Management class, what is supposed to be the capstone of my business education in college, on Google. It is about their history, product offerings, financial status, and then a swot analysis. We are even supposed to predict some future trends about Google. Well when doing some research, I stumbled across information on a sppech their CEO gave at the Google Analyst day.

Google states they are trying to achieve 100% storage. Meaning in the future they want to be able to store every single person's information and turn PCs into a cache type machine. This is outlandish and completely rediculous. Especially considering they accidently leaked this powerpoint onto the net. The irony of it is quite funny.
